Availability

Availability in grocery retail averages 97% and at a size level in fashion retail runs at around 80%. In around half of these cases we have found that the product is actually in the store somewhere. So having gone through the cost and effort of flowing products through the supply chain, items sit in stock rooms never getting united with a grateful customer, only waiting to be marked down.

This is costing retailers £8bn a year in lost sales and a further £2.8bn* in markdowns.

We have developed a range of practical tools supported by easy to adopt processes to get these products out of stock rooms and into customer’s hands.

As an example, the impact of this approach for one of our clients has been to improve availability by 12% driving up sales by 8%! To find out how click here.

Of course if you are one of the lucky few for whom sales floor availability is not impaired by product languishing in stock rooms, then perhaps it is time to turn your attention to the 10% availability improvement from getting product into the store that customers need.

Often there are barriers to the product flow to stores that are preventing this and frequently retailers charge their stores with fixing this when a simple change higher up the supply chain would resolve it much more effectively. This impacts all stores for much less cost and effort.

To find out how we helped one retailer in this way, by making 3 simple changes up stream and subsequently saving them thousands of hours a year in their stores, click here.
